Is Brighton Town Hall an interesting venue for ghost hunters? Yes, it was pretty spooky on a winter’s night when the Findings Hauntings team showed us around the lower floors. By the way, I’m not talking about the city councillors you might meet who are rushing to meetings earlier in the day, though they might give you the creeps, too. Brighton Town Hall is a neoclassical building with huge proud classical Greek columns greeting you at the entrance; but when you enter the building it turns more to a spooky, gothic and Victorian atmosphere; the large entrance hall with all the polished railings, the galleries and staircases offers much to the imagination. Below the ground floor is something even more interesting. The Brighton Police Museum. Findings Hauntings organised a super creepy evening last winter; we toured the old police cells and kept together as a group. In mid-Victorian times the town hall was also the police station and one police chief constable Henry Solomon was tragically murdered in 1844 on site and on duty. Some of the rooms are now a museum but there’s lots of rooms that have not been touched for years. If you stay quiet and are patient you sense things; you sense history and perhaps more if you’re patient… Thanks for a creepy tour Findings Hauntings!
